Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched the ‘Samajh Se Investing Simple’ campaign under Project Jagrook, aimed at investor awareness. The launch took place at Panjab University, Chandigarh, on 5 October 2026.

The launch marks the 10th edition of World Investor Week (WIW). The event is organised every year under the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). It is being observed in India from October 5 to 11, 2026.

Campaign urges informed investing

The campaign aims to make investing easier to understand through education and awareness. It encourages investors to learn about different investment products and their risks and features.

It also asks investors to check whether investment platforms and payment requests are genuine before they invest.

Project Jagrook was launched by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It is a nationwide campaign that uses both physical and digital routes to build financial literacy. It works in multiple languages and through many channels to prevent financial fraud.

SEBI is running the drive with Securities Market Partners (SMPs). These include the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), the stock exchanges BSE, NSE and MCX, the depositories CDSL and NSDL, and the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

MUST initiative takes securities market lessons to campuses

SEBI has rolled out the ‘Mentoring of University/College Students by Trainers (MUST)’ initiative. It aims to build financial literacy among students.

Under MUST, nominated faculty, staff or senior students will be trained and certified as Partner Trainers. SEBI, SMPs and NISM will certify them. The trainers will teach basic financial literacy, informed investing and fraud prevention inside university and college premises.

SEBI is also working with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The aim is to bring Project Jagrook and MUST to more universities and educational institutions.

A student-focused leaflet has also been introduced under MUST. It explains investing through the comparison of a trek. Both journeys have ups and downs, and preparation helps people get through them. The leaflet includes a ‘Spot the Differences’ game to build good investing habits.

SEBI joins WhatsApp

SEBI has announced its official presence on WhatsApp. The channel will share investor awareness information and resources on a widely used platform.

Users can reach the official SEBI WhatsApp Channel at 1800 22 7575. The account carries a verified blue tick to help users identify it as genuine.

Art exhibition and stalls on campus

An investor awareness art exhibition was held on the Panjab University campus as part of the event. The paintings showed different aspects of the securities market and investment options.

Participating SMPs set up stalls with interactive games, quizzes and information on investor initiatives. Students and visitors learnt about investing, investor rights and protection against financial fraud.

The event also marked the inauguration of the SEBI Chandigarh Local Office. Senior officials of SEBI, Panjab University, AIU and SMPs attended.
