Wind power push: Pralhad Joshi to open Windergy India in Chennai on October 8

India's wind capacity reached 58.52 GW by August 2026, with 28 GW under implementation toward a 100 GW target for 2030. The eighth Windergy India runs in Chennai from October 7 to 9.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the eighth edition of Windergy India on October 8 at the Chennai Trade Centre.

The three-day show, India’s leading wind energy event, runs from October 7 to 9, 2026.

Senior guests at the opening

Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik will also attend the ceremony. So will C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Energy Resources and Law.

Senior officials from the Centre and states, wind energy associations and industry leaders are also expected.

The opening session will announce global MoUs and release key sector reports. It will also honour states that have led the way in wind energy.

Fast growth in wind capacity

India added a record 6.05 GW of wind capacity in FY2025-26. Cumulative capacity stood at 58.52 GW by August 2026.

Another 28 GW is under implementation. The country aims for 100 GW by 2030.

What the event covers

Windergy India 2026 includes a three-day trade fair and a two-day conference. It will also hold technical sessions, round tables, live demonstrations, B2B and B2G meetings, and academia connect sessions.

Around 400 exhibitors from more than 20 countries will take part, along with 500 delegates. Denmark, Germany and Spain will each run a country pavilion.

Topics include domestic value addition, next-generation turbine platforms, heavy-duty gearboxes, AI-driven operations and maintenance, and offshore wind. Conference panels will discuss policy frameworks, manufacturing competitiveness, repowering and offshore wind.

Organisers and backing

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and PDA Ventures Pvt. Ltd. are organising the event. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Ministry of Power (MoP) are supporting it.
