Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh used his right of reply at the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, to respond to remarks made by Pakistan on Kashmir. The Indian delegation was taking part on the second day of the Assembly, 6 October 2026.
Kashmir remarks
Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Harivansh said Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. He added that Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on India’s internal affairs.
Committee sessions and debates
- Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, MP, Lok Sabha, and member of the IPU Committee on Health, attended its sessions. He also joined the committee on a field visit.
- Anurag Singh Thakur, MP, Lok Sabha, took part in the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights. He also joined the debate on a draft resolution on inclusive social development for people with disabilities.
- Kamaljeet Sehrawat, MP, Lok Sabha, attended the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security. She took part in a debate on parliamentary diplomacy, mediation and dialogue for lasting peace.
- Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP, Rajya Sabha, spoke in a panel discussion on the role of parliaments in securing peace in the age of military artificial intelligence. He also helped draft the resolution in the Democracy and Human Rights committee.
- N.K. Premachandran, MP, Lok Sabha, attended workshops on parliamentary response to terrorism and on critical minerals for shared prosperity.
Cultural programme and Diaspora meet
In the evening, the Indian High Commission hosted a cultural programme in honour of the delegation. The delegation then interacted with the Indian Diaspora.
