Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) today organized a cleanliness drive (Shramdaan) under the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign at Transport Bhawan, New Delhi. This initiative was taken for mass participation in cleanliness activities under the call of ‘One Day, One Hour, One Together’ campaign.

Swachhta Hi Seva campaign is being celebrated from September 17 to October 2, 2026. Its objective is to promote voluntary participation and encourage collective action towards cleanliness. The theme of this year's campaign is 'Participation in cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India'.

Under the ongoing campaign, 943 Sanitation Target Units (CTUs) have been transformed by October 1, 2026. Additionally, 123 public places have been cleaned so far under the campaign.

Shri V. Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, led the Shramdaan along with senior officials and staff of the Ministry. Officers and employees actively participated in the cleanliness drive. This also included cleaning of the area outside the transportation building. Through this initiative, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to keep public places and workplaces clean and neat.

On this occasion, Shri V. Umashankar and senior officials honored the sanitation workers by presenting them shawls in recognition of their dedicated service work. The Secretary appreciated their valuable contribution in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene at the workplace and acknowledged their important role in achieving the objectives of the cleanliness drive.

This initiative provided an opportunity for officers and employees to come together and contribute to the broader objective of Swachhata Hi Seva. The Ministry reiterated that cleanliness is not limited to periodic campaigns, but requires continuous participation and responsible behavior in daily life.

Under Swachhta Hi Seva and Special Campaign 6.0, the Ministry has identified several key areas for focused action. These include removal of garbage along National Highways (NHs), especially in urban areas; Renovation and maintenance of toilet blocks at toll plazas and other locations on National Highways; Comprehensive maintenance of toll plazas including cleaning, painting, lighting and solar power system; Installing road indicators and improving visibility of road markings; And making national highways pothole free. Apart from this, other activities related to cleanliness and maintenance are also being done.

All offices associated with the campaign including Headquarters, Regional Offices, Program Implementation Units (PIUs), Program Directors and other field offices have been sensitized to make coordinated efforts to ensure effective implementation of the campaigns and sustained impactful results.

The progress of the campaigns is being regularly reviewed by the Joint Secretary/Secretary with the Nodal Officers of the respective campaign offices, to ensure coordinated implementation and achievement of the objectives of the campaign.

The Shramdaan organized at Parivahan Bhawan reinforced the message of collective responsibility, dignity of labor and continuous participation in creating cleaner and more hygienic workplace and public environment.
