In a significant showcase of India's indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh will commission Fleet Support Ship-1 (FSS-1), lay the keel of Fleet Support Ship-5 (FSS-5) and also inaugurate Advanced Slipway-4 and 300 Ton Capacity Goliath Crane at Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Visakhapatnam on 6 October 2026.
The advanced Slipway-4 with extended length and increased load carrying capacity will enable the shipyard to build and launch vessels up to 45,000 deadweight tons (DWT) with the support of 300 tonne Goliath cranes. This will significantly expand its capacity to handle construction of large and complex platforms.
FSS-1, the first of the five Fleet Support Ships being built for the Indian Navy, will enter the waters of the Bay of Bengal just 18 months after steel cutting. These 43,500 tonne Indian ships will provide resupply to warships at sea, enhancing the Navy's long-term deployment capability and reach in the Indian Ocean region. With the keel of FSS-5 being laid, the program will continue to move towards series production.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Defense Production Secretary Shri Sanjeev Kumar and other dignitaries will be present in these programs.
