  • The collection showcases the ancient metal-casting traditions, tribal heritage, devotional art and contemporary cultural identity of Chhattisgarh
  • You can bid for the souvenirs received by the Prime Minister in this auction through the official portal.

An ancient metal-casting tradition remains the center of attraction in the collection of 16 souvenirs from Chhattisgarh, which brings together the state's rich tribal heritage, devotional traditions and contemporary cultural identity.

At the heart of the collection is Dhokra art, a traditional lost-wax metal-casting craft that has been practiced in India for over 4,000 years. Many of the Dhokra works demonstrate the distinctive character and versatility of this tradition, including the elephant-headed Nandi, the standing Nandi and the Madiya-Madin tribal couple.

This story of tribal Chhattisgarh continues through a traditional ceremonial turban adorned with a bunch of peacock feathers, cowries, metal discs and brass bells.

Apart from tribal crafts, the collection also brings together the many cultural influences that have shaped the state. A stole of the Ramnami community, covered with the mantra of “Ram Ram”, represents a unique expression of faith and devotion. Other mementos depict important religious and cultural sites, including Hatkeshwar Mahadev, Budheshwar Mahadev, Jai Maa Kudargarhi and Madheshwar Mahadev.

This collection also offers a glimpse of contemporary Chhattisgarh. A woodcut plaque depicting the ‘Mahatari Vandan Yojana’, a memento symbolizing the ‘Silver Jubilee of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly’ and models depicting the institutions of ‘Nava Raipur’ showcase the traditional heritage of the state as well as its ever-changing present.

The main message of this collection is sustainability. The traditions that have been taking shape over generations are still reflected in contemporary creations and are carrying forward the cultural memories of Chhattisgarh.

This auction is currently going on and its last date has been extended to 31 October 2026. The amount received from the auction will be used to support ‘Namami Gange Project’.

Interested bidders can bid online through the official ‘PM Mementos e-Auction Portal’: https://pmmementos.gov.in
