The meeting of the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC), Odisha, was held today at the CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar. The meeting served as a platform for strengthening strategic communication and inter-departmental coordination among various media organisations of the Government of India, with a focus on enhancing dissemination of information on Central Government policies, initiatives and welfare schemes across the region. It also featured presentations on key achievements, innovative initiatives and best practices adopted by member organisations.

Presiding over the meeting, Shri Akhil Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General, PIB & CBC, Bhubaneswar, underlined the importance of thoughtful, intelligent and action-oriented communication. Drawing lessons from the Ramayana, he stressed the need to avoid impulsive and hasty communication and highlighted the importance of information gathering and active listening before communicating or acting.

Referring to Lord Ram’s communication style, Shri Mishra emphasised the value of silence, patience and gathering information, while citing Hanuman as an exemplary communicator who combined clarity, appropriate words, strategic messaging and action. “Communication without action is no communication at all; it is merely amplification,” he said, stressing that communicators must actively engage with events rather than merely amplify information.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, emphasised the need to communicate science and technological innovations in a simple, creative and relatable manner. He called for stronger collaboration between scientific institutions and media organisations to ensure that scientific achievements reach wider sections of society.

He highlighted CSIR’s contribution to India’s scientific and technological development in areas including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, national standards, space technology, materials science, mining and metallurgy. He also highlighted CSIR-IMMT’s work in critical minerals, rare earth elements, circular economy, electronic waste recycling, platinum group metals, fly ash utilisation and hydrogen-based DRI.
