India’s natural rubber output rose to 9,05,000 tonnes in 2025-26, and the country ranks second in consumption. Rubber Board officials gave the figures at a meeting in Kottayam, Kerala.

M. Vasanthagesan, Executive Director of the Rubber Board, said India ranks sixth in the world in production. He spoke at the monthly Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee meeting, held under the Press Information Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram.

Production and consumption up

Output and demand both grew in the last year. The figures are below.

India exports rubber products worth Rs 47,123 crore. The Rubber Board has drawn up several initiatives to reach self-sufficiency in production. It has allocated Rs 367.52 crore for 2026-27 to develop the natural rubber sector in a sustainable and comprehensive way.

Expansion in the Northeast and Kerala

Rubber planting is spreading across 2 lakh hectares in the northeastern states. Leading tyre companies are providing financial support, and schemes of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region have contributed Rs 6.54 crore.

More than 2.47 lakh beneficiaries in Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and West Bengal have benefited. The Board is also working with the Government of Kerala’s KERA project to replant 30,000 hectares of rubber plantations.

Digital tools for growers and trade

The Board’s digital platforms are adding further strength to the sector. INR Konnect links agencies, farmers and tapping workers who need tapping services. mRube is an electronic trading platform for rubber.

BSNR is a geolocation and traceability certificate platform. It helps rubber exports meet the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) standards. The Board is also running branding initiatives to protect the quality of Indian rubber in international markets.

The Rubber Board has built a network of 2,641 Rubber Producer Societies, 375 Group Processing Centres, 113 Self-Help Groups, 73 Tapping Groups and 17 trading and processing companies.

V. Palanichamy, Additional Director General of the PIB Kerala-Lakshadweep Region, chaired the meeting. Heads of several Central Government institutions attended. Officials visited the campus of the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) after the meeting.
