- Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Club conducts a cleanliness rally and public awareness drives in Rajim
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur organized multi-dimensional activities on 30 September 2026 to promote cleanliness, civic responsibility, environmental conservation, and social awareness. As part of these initiatives, the institute’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Club spearheaded ‘Swachhata Abhiyan 2026’ in the historic and pilgrim town of Rajim, while the institute’s literary society, Literati, hosted an essay writing competition themed “Swachhata Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity Through Cleanliness).
The primary objective of the cleanliness drive in Rajim was to sensitize local residents, pilgrims, and youth toward clean habits and proper waste disposal, while motivating them to maintain the hygiene of public spaces. The drive was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Regional Coordinator, UBA, NIT Raipur.
Dr. Govardhan Bhatt (PI Coordinator, UBA), Dr. Deepika Agrawal and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Tripathi (Faculty In-charges, UBA Club), Mr. Vijay Verma (UBA Assistant), along with a large number of students, actively participated in the initiative.
During the visit, participants contributed voluntary labor (shramdaan) to thoroughly clean surrounding public areas and engaged in dialogue with local residents and shopkeepers. They urged the community to segregate waste, dispose of it at designated sites, curb the use of single-use plastics, and refrain from littering in open spaces. The students also took out an impactful cleanliness rally to disseminate key messages regarding solid waste management, hygienic practices, and environmental protection.
In addition with this, to encourage analytical and creative expression among youth, NIT Raipur’s Literati committee organized an essay writing competition on the theme “Swachhata Se Samriddhi,” under the guidance of Dr. Y. Vijaya Babu and Dr. Chetna S. Rajput. Students across disciplines participated actively, articulating their perspectives on sanitation, civic duties, environmental sustainability, and the indispensable role of a clean environment in building a prosperous nation.
These joint initiatives by NIT Raipur brought together community engagement, student leadership, and intellectual expression onto a common platform. The cleanliness drive in Rajim and the essay competition on campus reinforced the core ethos of the Swachh Bharat Mission, demonstrating that collective efforts and active civic participation are essential to building a healthy and prosperous India.
