President Droupadi Murmu hosted Swiss President Guy Parmelin at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 5, 2026. She also held a banquet in his honour.
Welcoming him, the President said India and Switzerland share democracy and the rule of law. Ties already span trade, science, technology, innovation, culture and people-to-people contacts.
Trade and investment opportunities
The President said Switzerland is an important trade and investment partner for India. She said the India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement now offers even greater scope for growth.
Swiss companies have invested in key Indian sectors. They have a notable presence in infrastructure, particularly in building roads, railway bridges and tunnels.
New areas of cooperation
The President said Swiss firms can also explore clean and green technology and Artificial Intelligence. She was pleased that important agreements were signed during the visit.
The agreements aim to promote cooperation in migration and mobility, research, and technology transfer.
Leaders see gains for both peoples
The two leaders agreed that close cooperation can bring immense benefits to the people of both countries. They expressed confidence that the visit will further strengthen bilateral relations.
