A 46-year-old businessman from Vejalpur in Ahmedabad has lost ₹1.96 lakh to cyber fraudsters who allegedly accessed his phone.
Dungarlal Daljibhai Jogi says the money was taken from his Bank of Baroda account through unauthorised transactions over two days. He has used Google Pay for around five years.
How it happened
Jogi told police that his phone began switching off intermittently around 9 am on October 3. He did not initially suspect cyber fraud.
He found the money missing when he checked his Google Pay balance on October 5. He had received ₹1,000 from an acquaintance, Mahesh Solanki, and checked the balance after that payment.
The transactions
- ₹98,000 on October 3, which Jogi says he did not authorise
- ₹48,000 on October 4
- ₹50,000 on October 4
Together, the three transactions total ₹1.96 lakh. Jogi says his phone malfunctioned again on October 5.
Jogi holds his account at the bank’s Jivraj branch. He has said the transfers were not made by him.
Police probe
Jogi reported the fraud to a cybercrime helpline and to Vejalpur police. Police are investigating how the phone was accessed and the alleged transfer of funds.
Investigators are also looking at how the transactions were authorised. Vejalpur has seen a similar pattern before, with residents reporting phones that froze or switched off before money went missing.
