Russian missiles and drones pounded Kyiv and a dozen other Ukrainian regions overnight, killing 19 civilians, including four children, and wounding around 60 others. Ukrainian officials said the worst-hit area was Pryluky in the northern Chernihiv region, where a Russian strike destroyed an apartment building, killing 13 people, including four children, and injuring about 50. Deaths were also reported in Kyiv and other cities. In Kremenchuk, two people were killed and seven injured.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had carried out a massive and deliberate attack. He said Ukraine urgently needs more air-defence systems, particularly Patriot missiles, to counter Russian ballistic missiles.

Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted Ukrainian defence-industrial facilities, as well as port and ship-repair facilities in the Odesa region.

Ukraine has also continued long-range strikes inside Russia, targeting oil facilities and military sites.

The latest attacks come as Russia and Ukraine remain locked in a prolonged aerial war, with diplomatic efforts offering little prospect of an immediate end to the conflict.
