- NHAI will install retrofit emission control devices on 25 diesel generator sets
- The generators are at Package-IV of the 8.7 km Dwarka Expressway stretch
- The work follows CAQM directions to cut DG emissions in Delhi-NCR
- Installation includes testing, commissioning and comprehensive maintenance support
- GPS-tagged photographs of each installation will be kept for verification
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will fit retrofit emission control devices (RECDs) on 25 diesel generator (DG) sets along the Dwarka Expressway in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Where the work will happen
The generators are deployed at Package-IV of the Dwarka Expressway. This stretch is 8.7 km long and runs from Basai to the Kherki Dhaula, Delhi-Gurugram Expressway cloverleaf intersection.
Why it is being done
The move follows directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on regulating DG sets in the NCR. The aim is to cut air pollution, especially in winter under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
Package-IV lies in a part of Delhi-NCR that suffers severe air pollution in the winter months. CAQM has ordered emission controls for DG sets operating in the area to improve air quality during this period.
What will be installed and checked
The devices will go on the generators that power Expressway lighting and other related operations. They will work to limit emissions while these generators run.
The work covers installation, testing and commissioning of the devices, along with full maintenance support. NHAI will also keep GPS-tagged photographs of each installation at every DG set location for verification and compliance.
NHAI says the step is part of its wider effort to build environmental protection into National Highway construction and operation, especially in the NCR. It aims to ensure that DG sets needed for essential highway work meet the applicable emission rules.
