  • Work spilled into April 14 and reduced line capacity for premium services

Western Railway cut short and partly cancelled Vande Bharat trains between Mumbai and Gandhinagar on April 13 and 14, due to bullet train work. Travellers on the Gujarat route were the most affected.

Train changes

  • Train 20901 was short-terminated at Vatva, and services between Vatva and Gandhinagar Capital were cancelled.
  • Train 20902, the return service, started from Vatva, and the Gandhinagar Capital–Vatva section was cancelled.
  • Local MEMU services were fully cancelled on April 13.

The Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat (20901) and its return train, the Gandhinagar Capital–Mumbai Central Vande Bharat (20902), connect the financial and political capitals with a high-speed daytime run.

Why the trains were hit

Western Railway imposed a traffic block in the Ahmedabad division to launch pre-cast portal beams for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train line. The work crosses existing tracks close to Sabarmati.

The engineering window was concentrated on April 13 but spilled into April 14. It reduced line capacity and forced priority changes for premium services.

Rail officials said safety margins during heavy lifting and staging operations leave little room for error.

Earlier blocks and advice to travellers

A separate traffic block on April 24, 2026, on the Geratpur–Ahmedabad section also cancelled sections of trains 20901 and 20902. That block was aimed at strengthening railway infrastructure and upgrading passenger facilities.

Passengers were advised to recheck timings, boarding stations and train status before leaving for the station. A recent travel advisory said current services were running regularly, after disruptions from bullet train construction in early 2026.
