Voters across Gandhinagar go to the polls today as 2,59,443 people decide 44 seats in the municipal corporation.
Campaigning for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation election has ended. Voting is by EVM from 7 am to 6 pm. The 44 seats are spread across 11 wards.
Key numbers
The voter list shows 1,32,285 male and 1,27,149 female voters. Another 9 are registered as other.
A total of 295 polling stations have been set up. Of these, 90 are sensitive and 6 are hyper-sensitive.
Party-wise candidate counts are BJP 44, Congress 44, AAP 32, and independents and others 10. 22 of the 44 seats are reserved for women.
Polling arrangements
Polling materials, including EVMs, polling staff, booths and other election material, were to reach all polling stations on the Saturday before voting.
Election vehicles were to leave the dispatch centre at the Government Commerce College in Sector-15 on 39 fixed routes under tight police arrangements. The 39 buses were to carry more than 1,570 election staff, police personnel, control units, ballot units, polling booths and other material.
Deputy Chief Minister Harshabhai Sanghvi attended a meeting on election preparations. Minister Rishikeshbhai Patel is the election in-charge.
Complaints and police action
Before polling, Congress complained to the Gandhinagar Range IG about banners being torn down in Kolavda. The party also sought continuous police patrolling in sensitive areas until the poll process is complete.
Congress leaders, including Jignesh Mevani, alleged police action before the election. Police said the person detained is a bootlegger and that the action was taken for that reason.

Counting will take place on 13 October.
