Navratri begins in Ahmedabad today, with nine nights of garba running from 11 to 19 October. Preparations for the festival were in full swing across the city.
Police allow loudspeakers
An order from the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner’s office allows microphones, loudspeakers and public address systems. The order covers the nine nights, from 11 to 19 October, and Dussehra on 20 October. On all these days, the sound is allowed until 12 midnight.
Garba events across the city
Navshakti Navratri is a free, non-commercial garba festival in Ahmedabad. Singer Hardik Dave founded it in 2022. Volunteers run it, with community donations. The 2026 edition runs for nine nights, from 11 to 19 October.
One listing for a large ground gives gates opening at 7:30 PM. Garba runs until 12 midnight every night.
Singer Kirtidan Gadhvi has announced a change for his Parampara Navratri. He shared a video reel on social media after an AC dome collapsed. A Gujarati report says garba will now be held in an open ground from 12 to 20 October.
About the festival
Navratri is the nine-night festival of Goddess Durga. Sharad Navratri 2026 marks Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. The festival ends with Maha Navami on 19 October. Vijayadashami, also called Dussehra, is celebrated on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
