Before the October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, Railways has canceled many trains going to Delhi. Sabarmati–New Delhi train (12957) is also included in the list. Passengers with e-tickets will automatically get full refund.
Why were the trains canceled
CJP has called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on 10 October 2026. The organization is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It alleges that there were irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
According to the Railway Board, trains running from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 will be cancelled. These trains were to reach New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin on October 10 between 4 am to 2 pm. The fear of heavy traffic jams on the roads has been cited as the reason.
Amit Malviya, senior public relations officer of North Central Railway, said that this step has been taken in view of the proposed protest, heavy traffic jam and safety of passengers. Railways has called this a precautionary measure so that passengers do not face any problem.
Which trains are affected
More than 70 trains to and from Delhi have been reported cancelled. Eastern Railway has also canceled two Rajdhani Expresses running from West Bengal on Friday. These are 12301 Howrah–New Delhi and 12313 Sealdah–New Delhi Rajdhani.
Mahakaushal and Sampark Kranti Express going from Jabalpur to Delhi are also cancelled. Routes connecting states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have also been affected. Two Namo Bharat stations will also remain closed.
Refund rules
In case of cancellation of train by Railways, the entire fare of confirmed and RAC e-ticket will be returned to the same account from where the payment was made. No clerkage fees will be deducted in canceled trains. There is no need to fill separate TDR for e-ticket. This rule is generally applicable under IRCTC rules.
Passengers with physical tickets purchased at the counter will have to approach the counter for refund.
opposition and criticism
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das criticized the restrictions for canceling trains. He said:
The Government of India has called for a Delhi Bandh tomorrow.
Deepke, associated with Congress, also raised questions on the cancellation of trains. He said:
Shut down the entire country if you are scared of the youth.
Passengers should check the live status of the train by calling NTES or 139 before travelling.
