CISF has conducted a major operation against illegal coal storage and transportation near Charakpania village, close to Vedkaro Mines in CCL’s B&K Area. Acting on secret information, a joint CISF-CCL team launched the operation under the leadership and supervision of Commandant R.P. Singh, in the presence of Deputy Commandant Gara Abhilash and Assistant Commandants K.V. Sridhar and D.K. Pandey.
The suspected area was first identified through drone surveillance. The CISF raid team, Quick Response Team (QRT) and sniffer dogs then carried out a thorough search of the site. The team engaged local women and villagers with tact and dialogue, and the operation concluded peacefully, without any dispute. The search led to the seizure of 207.17 tonnes of Grade-4 coal and 4 motorcycles.
Preliminary investigation indicates the following modus operandi:
- Coal was lifted by hand from various mining areas.
- It was stockpiled temporarily at isolated spots, away from active mining and operational areas.
- Motorcycles were used to move it onward, for loading into large commercial vehicles such as trucks and tipper trucks for dispatch elsewhere.
CISF is taking sustained action against illegal mining, storage and transportation under the Zero Coal Leakage campaign and the provisions of the MMDR Act, 1957.
