Kolkata Police has trained 125 of its personnel on handling crimes against women and children, ahead of the festive season. The two-day course ran on 5-6 October 2026 at the Police Training School in Kolkata.

The course was run with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU). It focused on the safety of women, children and other vulnerable groups. Police said the timing was chosen because Durga Puja brings large crowds onto the streets.

What the training covered

The sessions dealt with POCSO, BNS, BNSS and BSA. Officers also learnt trauma-informed investigation, first response at the scene, and risk assessment.

Other topics included digital and forensic evidence, cyber offences, preventive policing, coordination between agencies and emergency response.

First step under the new partnership

This is the first major training with Kolkata Police since the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Both sides say the course reflects their shared aim of professional, scientific and responsive policing.

Commissioner urges empathy

Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Shri Ajay Nand, spoke at the closing session. He stressed empathy, sensitivity and trauma-informed handling of crimes against women and children.

He also said specialised training should continue, with RRU as a partner. The programme, police said, strengthens the force’s preparedness for the festive season and its coordinated response to public safety.
