- Barn owls, bumblebees and hedgehogs are among the animals proposed for future banknotes
- A public consultation drew around 500,000 participants who voted on animal preferences
- The change comes as cash use has fallen during the COVID-19 pandemic
The Bank of England plans to swap famous Britons on its banknotes for images of local wildlife. Barn owls, bumblebees and hedgehogs are among the animals set to appear.
The move follows a public consultation with around 500,000 participants, who voted on which animals they preferred.
The shift comes as cash transactions have declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some Britons, however, want to see cash used more again.
