Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal launches initiative at Shahpur Campus; students to receive special academic credits for nurturing and protecting trees
Dharamshala/Shahpur: Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has taken an innovative initiative to integrate environmental conservation with education and
students’ academic responsibility. At a special plantation programme held at the University’s Shahpur Campus, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal planted a
sapling in the sacred memory and honour of his revered mother, Smt. Parameshwari Devi, and launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in the Name of Mother)
campaign. With this initiative, CUHP has become the first university in the country to link the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign with students’ academic credits. Inspired by the emotional and meaningful initiative of the Vice-Chancellor, students of the Shahpur Campus also planted saplings in the names of their respective mothers.
Interacting with the students, Prof. Bansal emphasized that merely planting a tree is not enough; its protection, nurturing and continuous care are equally important. He announced that students who properly nurture and protect the trees planted by them will be awarded special academic credits. The initiative aims to transform environmental conservation from a one-time activity into an integral part of students’ education, responsibility and values.
