National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on a media report has taken suo motu cognizance which states that 3 In October 2026, three women journalists were sexually assaulted by Delhi Police personnel during the protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

The Commission has said that if the information given in the news report is true, it constitutes a serious case of human rights violation. Accordingly, the Commission has issued a notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

According to media reports published on 5 October 2026, New Delhi District Police received complaints about the alleged incidents, which were handed over to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police for investigation.
