Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, today reiterated the Government's commitment towards ease of living and welfare of pensioners, saying that the expected outcome of technology and digital measures should be simpler and more accessible service delivery to pensioners and their families.
Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare-DOPPW has appointed T.N. of IIPA, New Delhi. Addressing the 17th Pension Adalat held at Chaturvedi Memorial Hall, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the pension administration should continuously learn from the experiences and difficulties of pensioners and work on removing the existing systemic shortcomings. In the 17th Pension Adalat today, 756 out of 897 complaints were redressed with a redressal rate of 84.2 per cent. Dr. Singh thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for introducing the concept of Panchayat Adalat in the year 2017.
Dr. Jitendra Singh stressed on identifying the existing shortcomings of the pension system and removing them through continuous reforms. He said that the purpose of pension reforms is not just technological advancement but to ensure that the benefits of the reforms reach the last pensioners and bring real change in their lives.
In the 17th Pension Court, 897 complaints related to family pensioners and very old pensioners were heard for speedy redressal. In which till today, October 5, 2026, 756 cases have been resolved with a resolution rate of 84.2 percent. Action is being taken in the coming days to resolve the remaining cases. This reflects the Government's continued attention towards timely grievance redressal and welfare of pensioners.
Referring to the increasing use of digital technology in pension related services, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the processes are being simplified through systems based on digital identity and facial recognition. He stressed the need to continuously inform pensioners about such facilities so that they can take full advantage of digital services.
Discussing the Digital Jeevan Pramaan Patra initiative, Dr. Singh stressed on the ease of pensioners getting the digital certificate and the importance of awareness programs. He noted the widespread success of these initiatives. He said that it will be further strengthened with greater awareness and wider reach.
Dr. Singh mentioned the role of media and mass communication in spreading information about pension reforms to pensioners across the country. He highlighted the positive results of earlier awareness campaigns and called for continued use of modern communication tools so that pensioners and their families remain informed about the services and reforms available.
Dr Singh said that technology should be used not only for routine service but also to identify problems and improve the overall pension administration system. He said that wherever deficiencies or avoidable difficulties are seen, they should be identified and resolved immediately so that the system continuously improves.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the welfare of pensioners is at the center of the Government's approach and along with technical measures, there should be sensitivity towards the needs of pensioners and family pensioners.
The Union Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions also mentioned the ongoing efforts to simplify pension procedures and provide better support to the families of pensioners. He stressed that the reforms should focus on addressing the practical difficulties faced by the beneficiaries and should enhance ease of living.
The 17th Pension Adalat brought together pensioners and concerned employees of the concerned Ministries and Departments to submit pension related grievances and get them considered and settled. In the program, Joint Secretary (Pension) also presented the cases before Dr. Jitendra Singh. The proceedings enabled direct investigation of complaints and coordinated efforts for their prompt redressal.
During the 17th Pension Adalat, pamphlets based on the success of the 16th Pension Adalat and an e-book titled Ease of Life of Family Pensioners were also released. These publications highlight the Government's continuous efforts for effective grievance redressal and better experience of pensioners and family pensioners.
The 17th Pension Adalat is part of the institutional arrangement developed by the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare for meaningful, accessible and speedy redressal of pensioners' grievances.
An exemplary example of this was the case of Mrs. Chander Kanta Jalli, whose husband made the supreme sacrifice for the country in 1973. He was sanctioned liberalized family pension. However, due to some reasons, the family pension he received was less than the amount he was entitled to. When he came to know about this, he contacted various forums. During the Pension Adalat, her son Shri Jaswinder Jalli participated through video conferencing from Chandigarh and presented the complaint on behalf of his mother before the Hon'ble Minister of State for Public Grievances and Pensions. The matter was discussed in detail. Subsequently, the outstanding amount of Rs 2.02 crore was released as family pension.
In another case, pension amount of over Rs 72 lakh was released to Ms Damayanti Sinha with the help of pension court.
