Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari yesterday announced the approval of 993.64 crore rupees for the development of National Highway-10 between Rangpo and Ranipool in Sikkim.
The Minister expects the project will upgrade the corridor into a two-lane highway with paved shoulders, with major engineering works planned to improve safety and resilience in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
The project will include the construction of tunnels, bridges with comprehensive slope-protection measures to tackle vulnerable sliding and sinking zones.
Mr Gadkari said the upgraded corridor would provide safer, faster and more resilient connectivity to Gangtok and other parts of Sikkim.
