Police have imposed traffic curbs across Delhi from 6 am on Saturday, ahead of a Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar on 10 October 2026.
What the protest is about
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. It wants Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign. CJP leader Saurav Das announced the protest and formally informed the Delhi Police.
The October 10 mobilisation followed a CJP protest in Mumbai on 2 October. The party had also held a protest at Jantar Mantar earlier in 2026, including one on 20 June.
Traffic shutdowns and detentions
Strict traffic restrictions are in force across the national capital from 6 am on Saturday. Police have set up diversions at several points across Delhi.
The Connaught Place market will shut on Saturday. The New Delhi Traders Association said the closure was for public safety and to prevent possible property damage.
Protesters heading for Delhi were reportedly stopped and detained in several states. Live updates put the number detained on the way to Jantar Mantar at 150.
Reactions
Saurav Das called the Chief Election Commissioner a “traitor” and “anti-national”. He said young people across the country would take part in the protest.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke left for the national capital to stage the protest. In a post, he said:
The mass crackdown on protesters and the shutdown of Delhi are not signs of strength, but of a leader terrified of his own people.
Earlier, at a July protest, CJP representatives Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das met Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda. They presented demands that included the release of Wangchuk and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
What next
The Delhi event is being described as a fresh Jantar Mantar protest if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign.
