A Bihar school roof is held up by benches and bricks after its main pillar collapsed, and the NHRC has taken notice.
What the report says
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report from Kiratpur, in Darbhanga district of Bihar. The report says a Government Primary School roof is still propped up by wooden benches, desks and bricks placed underneath.
The support was put in place after the main pillar holding the roof collapsed three to four months ago. According to the report, about 191 students and school staff are at risk.
Commission’s view
The Commission said the contents of the report, if true, raise serious issues of human rights violations.
According to the media report, the administration appears to be unaware of the situation.
Notice issued
The NHRC has issued a notice to the Darbhanga District Magistrate. It has asked for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
