- Encouraged youth to adopt modern technologies and explore opportunities in the creative economy
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan today called upon the youth to utilize their skills, creativity and innovation potential to contribute to the goal of a developed India by 2047. Addressing students and learners at a Noida-based institute, the Union Minister stressed the importance of quality education, lifelong learning, skill development and entrepreneurship in preparing India's youth for emerging opportunities.
Outlining the central role of youth in nation building, Dr. Murugan has cited Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of placing youth power at the center of India's journey to a developed India by 2047. He emphasized that a developed India is not a distant dream but a future and today's youth will contribute in shaping it. He stressed the need for an ecosystem linking education with skills, technology, research, entrepreneurship and employment.
Education reforms for a changing world
The Union Minister explained the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in making education more flexible, multidisciplinary and skill-oriented. He said that in a rapidly changing world, learning should continue throughout life so that individuals can acquire new skills and abilities at different stages of their career.
Emphasizing the importance of online education, Dr. Murugan called for accessible learning opportunities to suit diverse needs and circumstances. Its objective is to enable learners to upgrade their skills and adapt to evolving business needs.
Democratization of access to knowledge
Dr. Murugan described the Government's 'One Nation One Subscription' initiative as an important step towards increasing access to quality academic research and global knowledge resources. He stressed that access to quality research should not be constrained by institutional or geographic boundaries, adding that “talent is everywhere, and opportunities should also be everywhere.”
Education, Skills and employment opportunities
Regarding employment opportunities, the Union Minister also talked about the role of infrastructure development, manufacturing, services, entrepreneurship and skill development in employment generation. Citing RBI-KLEMS data, he said India created about 17.1 crore jobs between 2014-15 and 2023-24.
He urged the youth to go beyond degrees to develop practical skills, problem-solving abilities and self-confidence to meet the demands of the changing economy. He encouraged the youth to develop capabilities that will enable them to innovate and create employment opportunities for others.
Emerging Technologies and the Creative Economy
Dr. Murugan encouraged the youth to explore the opportunities that arise from the intersection of technology and creativity, especially in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, gaming, animation, visual effects, extended reality and digital content.
He called upon the youth of India to move beyond being consumers of technology and content and become creators for the world. Emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and innovation, he encouraged students to develop the skills required to participate in emerging technology-based industries.
Constitutional values and responsible citizenship
The Union Minister also pointed out the importance of constitutional values in education and nation building. Referring to the fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution, he stressed the need to develop scientific temper, spirit of curiosity and commitment to excellence among the young citizens.
In concluding his address, Dr. Murugan urged young Indians to continuously learn, continuously create and create opportunities for others. He stressed that the country's progress towards a developed India by 2047 will depend on the ability of the youth to acquire skills, innovate and contribute to a more prosperous nation.
