- 4,710 activities were organized across the country; 160% of target achieved with participation of more than 74,000 people
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting successfully completed the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2026’ campaign. This campaign ran from 17 September to 2 October 2026 and concluded on ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’. “Everyone's participation in cleanliness; clean india, developed india“ The campaign, run on the theme of 'Clean India', emphasized the collective role and responsibility of every individual in carrying forward the vision and resolve of a clean and developed India. its purpose ‘Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026′ The aim was also to increase awareness about sanitation, strengthen youth participation in sanitation and promote collective ownership and public participation.
The Ministry, along with all its media units and their regional offices, organized 4,710 events across the country under various aspects of the campaign. As against the target of 2,943, 160 per cent of the target was thus achieved. A total of 74,483 people participated in these activities.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Railways and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnav interacted with senior officials of the three ministries on October 1 under the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign.
Addressing the officials on the occasion, Shri Vaishnav stressed that cleanliness should not be limited to just a campaign, but should become a permanent habit which becomes a natural part of everyday life and work. He urged that the message of cleanliness should reach every office and every unit at the grassroots level, even the smallest regional office.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan participated in “One Day, One Hour, Ek Saath” and other activities at the Delhi-based Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) and called upon everyone to make cleanliness a mass movement.
During the campaign, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reviewed the progress of the work with the heads of media units and nodal officers. The Secretary directed them to ensure maximum participation of people in the campaign and achieve the set targets.
These activities included various aspects of cleanliness and people's participation. Sanitation Target Units‘ (CTU) rejuvenate and clean–clean public place Under this, difficult and dirty areas and highly crowded public places were identified, mapped and cleaned within stipulated time. A total of 2,864 CTUs were rejuvenated and public areas were cleaned.
‘clean school: youth for cleanliness‘ Under this, students and youth were made aware and sensitized towards cleanliness. for this ‘cleanliness knowledge journey‘, Tours of solid waste management facilities and ‘Sanitation and Water Conservation Dialogue‘ Such activities were organised. These dialogues included talks and discussions on sanitation, rainwater harvesting and water management. A total of 219 programs were organized under this part.
‘Safai Mitra Safety and Respect Camp‘ Under this, single-window camps were organized for Safai Mitras/Swachhagrahis/Safai Karmacharis. These camps included linking eligible beneficiaries with schemes under Central and State welfare schemes, preventive health check-up and distribution of PPE kits/protective equipment. Felicitation ceremonies were also organized at the local level to honor his contribution in the field of cleanliness. A total of 139 programs were organized under this part.
‘public participation for cleanliness‘ In the first part, focus was on door-to-door awareness campaigns and initiatives to connect people. This included awareness about Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, promotion of four types of waste segregation and composting. as well as, ‘game for cleanliness‘, ‘clean festival‘, ‘green festival‘ And ‘A tree in the name of mother‘ Under this, campaigns like planting trees were also conducted. A total of 1,418 programs were organized under this part.
‘prosperity through cleanliness‘ Under this, the focus was on promoting and strengthening the circular economy. for this “Best out of junk – waste to wealth” And “art from junk – waste to art“ Such initiatives were taken. Along with this, campaigns to donate old books, toys and clothes were also run. 70 programs were organized under this initiative.
The Ministry organized special activities under ‘World Tourism Day’ on 27th September 2026 and “One Day, One Hour, Together” on 1st October 2026. One hour of voluntary cleanliness service was contributed. Apart from this, special cleanliness drives were conducted on ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ on 2 October 2026, in which officers and employees participated enthusiastically.
The Ministry, through its media units and regional offices, reiterated its resolve to promote cleanliness as a collective responsibility and an ongoing people's movement. There was active participation of officers, employees, youth, Safai Mitras and citizens from across the country.
