- Punjab’s Raghubir Singh's Journey towards Economic Self-Reliance
Timely support for self-employment can provide the means to strengthen existing enterprises, increase income opportunities and move towards greater financial stability. Financial assistance can play an important role in helping individuals from disadvantaged communities establish sustainable livelihoods and improve their economic condition.
Mr. Raghubir Singh, aged 43, from Punjab, received financial assistance of Rs. 2.50 lakh in 2025 under the NSFDC Term Loan Scheme. The financial assistance enabled him to install modern machines and expand his tailoring and embroidery business, thereby strengthening his existing livelihood and creating better opportunities for income generation.
Before availing the assistance, Mr. Singh’s monthly income was Rs. 10,000. With the expansion of his business and effective utilisation of the financial support, his monthly income increased to approximately Rs. 20,000. The increase in income has strengthened his financial position and enabled him to meet his household needs in a more stable and secure manner.
The loan assistance has significantly improved Mr. Singh’s economic condition and provided him with an opportunity to pursue self-employment with greater financial stability. By making regular repayments of the loan, he has demonstrated financial discipline while continuing to strengthen his tailoring and embroidery business.
Shri Raghubir Singh expressed his satisfaction and said, “The financial assistance helped me expand my tailoring and embroidery business and increase my monthly income. It has strengthened my financial position and enabled me to move towards greater self-reliance.”
Mr. Raghubir Singh’s journey demonstrates how timely financial assistance can enable individuals to expand their enterprises, improve their earning capacity and move towards economic self-reliance. His experience reflects the role of NSFDC’s financial support in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and promoting a stronger and more self-reliant society.
