Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 25 years in public service, a journey defined by the mantra of Jan Seva Se Desh Seva, and a relentless commitment that continues. Guided by this vision for Seva and Sushasan, the Government has been ceaselessly working towards achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. One such initiative is the International Solar Alliance.
India and France jointly launched the International Solar Alliance in November 2015 during the COP21 climate conference. The global intergovernmental organisation is dedicated to accelerating the deployment of solar energy as a pathway to energy access, energy security, and sustainable development. ISA was created to mobilise collective action against climate change through the widespread adoption of solar energy solutions.
Today, ISA has evolved into a global platform for international cooperation on solar energy, with 129 countries currently registered as members. Co-chairing the launch of International Solar Alliance during COP21 in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the alliance focuses on making solar energy cheap, reliable, and widely accessible by driving research and development, streamlining regulations, building infrastructure, and unlocking new financing models to draw investment.
Talking to Akashvani News, Director General of the International Solar Alliance Ashish Khanna said that ISA signifies the strength of the vision of Prime Minister Modi and showcases India's ability to lead the Global South. The alliance represents a transformative movement towards a sustainable energy future. With India leading this initiative, ISA not only aims to enhance energy access and security but also focuses on significantly reducing carbon emissions globally.
